The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named its 16-member T20I squad to face New Zealand in a five-match series starting October 22, with a notable recall for veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The last time Kumar played a T20I was in November 2022, but his strong performances in the Indian Premier League—where he took 45 wickets across two seasons with Royal Challengers Bengaluru—have earned him a return to the national side.
Varun Chakaravarthy also makes his comeback after missing the previous series due to injury, while Shreyas Iyer will lead India for the fourth time in an overseas bilateral assignment. The series will serve as a warm-up before a three-match ODI series and two Test matches, with Iyer’s captaincy record so far including a 3-0 ODI win over Zimbabwe and a gold-medal defense at the Asian Games in Japan.
