Ryan Fox, the reigning British Open champion, reflected on how his victory has reshaped his career during a recent visit to Pleasant Valley Country Club in Massachusetts. The 39-year-old New Zealander, who won the 2025 RBC Canadian Open and ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic on the PGA Tour, expressed surprise at the club’s deep ties to past British Open winners.
Pleasant Valley has hosted multiple PGA Tour events, including victories by Tony Lema (1965), Ian Baker-Finch (1991), Arnold Palmer (1968), and Mark Calcavecchia (1988), several of whom also claimed the British Open. Fox, who won at Royal Birkdale in 2025, called the history “amazing” and admitted he now plans to explore more about the course’s legacy.
Fox also noted the increased expectations and media attention since his Open triumph, calling the shift “almost everything” in his professional life. He has conducted far more interviews in the three months since July 19 than in his entire PGA Tour career, which began in 2024.
The added visibility has brought unexpected opportunities, though he remains focused on maintaining his on-course performance despite the heightened scrutiny.
