Eagle Trace Golf Club in Broomfield, Colorado, has announced its permanent closure starting October 3, 2026, after severe drought conditions drained its water supply. The course, located roughly halfway between Denver and Boulder, had already played its final rounds on October 3, with the owner citing the inability to maintain the property due to water scarcity.
The drought has left reservoirs feeding the course nearly empty, with visible cracks and dry ground appearing earlier this year, though water issues have plagued the facility for some time. The private owner, Eagle Trace Golf Club LLC, sold the course’s water rights in August 2024, cutting off irrigation access after November 1, 2026, according to local easement agreements.
Neighbors are organizing to preserve the space, launching a nonprofit aimed at securing a new owner who could negotiate fresh water rights. Local resident Kevin Kieffer expressed concern over the loss of an affordable golfing option, emphasizing how the closure impacts community access to the sport.
The Broomfield Enterprise reported that the course’s closure marks another blow to public golf amid worsening drought conditions in the region.
