Los Angeles catcher Dalton Rushing has been activated from the ten-day injured list prior to the opening game of a weekend series, giving the team a final chance to evaluate his readiness for the postseason roster. Because of an elbow injury involving a partial ligament tear, Rushing will be restricted to hitting duties and is projected to make no more than three pinch-hit appearances.
Manager Dave Roberts noted that while the backstop faces a tough path to securing a spot after missing most of August and suffering a subsequent setback, his full-season performance of a .249 batting average and twelve home runs earns him serious consideration. Alternatively, top prospect Josue De Paula remains a leading candidate for the left-handed bench role after impressing club leadership during a brief forty-two plate appearance stint where he hit .323 and reached base at a fifty percent rate.
