Rory McIlroy made headlines at the DP World India Championship by adopting a bold new fashion statement on the course, inspired by Ryder Cup teammate Tommy Fleetwood. The Northern Irish golfer debuted baggy trousers, a look he admitted he admires in Fleetwood and also incorporates into his off-course wardrobe.
While acknowledging the trousers may not be perfectly tailored for play—describing them as a 'work in progress'—McIlroy embraced the trend as part of his evolving style, blending personal flair with his competitive edge. Beyond fashion, McIlroy is also investing in his long-term performance, planning to replicate the specialized 'performance trailer' he uses on the PGA Tour for fitness and recovery.
The project, inspired by Novak Djokovic and Justin Rose, aims to help him maintain peak form as he targets a record-tying eighth Order of Merit title on the European Tour by 2027. With four events remaining in the Race to Dubai season, McIlroy sits third in the standings, trailing Patrick Reed and Eugenio Chacarra, though the top three remain closely matched heading into the final stretch.
Reed’s recent momentum has slowed due to a shoulder injury, while Chacarra has surged ahead thanks to strong finishes in France and Spain. McIlroy, who will compete in three of the remaining events, continues to balance innovation—both on and off the course—as he eyes another dominant season.
