The Tomorrow’s Golf League (TGL) made history with its first-ever player trade, as Boston Common Golf secured 2019 British Open champion Shane Lowry from The Bay Golf Club in a landmark deal. The move, finalized Monday, marks a significant upgrade for Boston Common, which finished atop the 2026 regular-season standings before falling short in the semifinals.
In exchange, The Bay received Boston Common’s fourth selection in this year’s draft, a future pick in the next three offseasons, and additional commercial benefits. The trade comes as TGL expands rosters from four to five players starting in 2027, adding depth to the league’s competitive format, which blends triples and singles matches over 15 holes at SoFi Center in Florida.
Team founder and six-time major winner Rory McIlroy welcomed Lowry, citing his major title, team competition pedigree, and camaraderie as key assets. Lowry, a two-time Irish Open champion, echoed enthusiasm, calling the partnership with McIlroy ‘particularly exciting’ and highlighting their shared success in events like the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
