The Chicago Bears suffered a crushing 31-7 defeat to the Green Bay Packers in Week 5, a result that defied expectations given the Bears' status as betting favorites despite playing at Lambeau Field. The Bears' offense struggled mightily, with Tyson Bagent leading a unit that managed just seven points while facing a dominant Packers defense.
Bagent's performance was particularly disappointing, ranking 24th among quarterbacks with a 65.9 PFN grade, as his efficiency metrics lagged well behind league averages. Among the Bears' offensive players, only running back D’Andre Swift stood out with an 80.0 grade, while the rest of the skill-position players posted modest or underwhelming marks.
The offensive line showed flashes of promise, particularly guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson, who both earned above-average grades, but center Garrett Bradbury and tackle Darnell Wright underperformed relative to their season-long trends, with Wright delivering his worst outing of the year.
Defensively, the Bears had individual bright spots but ultimately failed to gel as a unit, allowing the Packers to dictate the pace of the game. Edge rusher Austin Booker led the way with an 86.5 grade, while linebacker Devin Bush also exceled with an 86.3 mark.
However, the secondary struggled, with cornerbacks Malik Muhammad and Jaylon Johnson both posting grades in the 60s, and safety Xavier Woods failing to contain the Packers' passing attack. The Bears' defense as a whole lacked cohesion, particularly against vertical routes, and the unit's inability to stop Green Bay's high-powered offense proved decisive in the lopsided loss.
