Reports: Pragyan Ojha set to become India's interim chief selector, taking over from Ajit Agarkar

Pragyan Ojha is slated to step in as India's interim chief selector once Ajit Agarkar concludes his tenure on October 4, 2026. Agarkar recently wrapped up his responsibilities by naming the squad for the home ODI series against West Indies, while the board has not yet detailed reasons for his departure or confirmed a permanent successor, though Parthiv Patel has surfaced as a potential candidate.

Ojha's upcoming tenure begins amidst a busy itinerary, highlighted by an upcoming tour to New Zealand featuring five T20Is, three ODIs, and two Tests between October 22 and November 27, 2026, alongside an India A three-Test assignment. During his playing days, Ojha collected 144 international wickets across 24 Tests, 18 ODIs, and 6 T20Is, concluding his career at the Wankhede Stadium with a ten-wicket performance during Sachin Tendulkar's farewell match in 2013.
