Report: Lions, Sam LaPorta break off contract extension talks

Negotiations regarding a long-term agreement between Detroit and their pass-catcher have currently stalled. The former second-round selection from the 2023 draft is currently playing through the final season of his initial rookie agreement, opening up the possibility of testing the open market next spring.

Although discussions have halted, both sides may restart negotiations later in the year or during the upcoming offseason, and the franchise retains the option to apply a franchise tag. Through the current campaign thus far, the tight end has accumulated fourteen receptions resulting in 144 yards alongside a single touchdown.
