The seventh-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes advanced their record to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play following a 42-19 victory over the visiting Illinois Fighting Illini. Wide receiver Jeremiah Smith powered the offensive effort with twelve catches resulting in 217 yards and four scores, while quarterback Julian Sayin contributed 367 passing yards, four passing touchdowns, and an additional touchdown on the ground.

Defensively, the Buckeyes recorded three sacks against Katin Houser but allowed 199 rushing yards, including 113 yards from Aidan Laughery. With this outcome, Ohio State secured its eleventh consecutive win in the series.
