Red Sox manager Chad Tracy explains why he pulled Payton Tolle in Game 1 loss to Yankees

Boston skipper Chad Tracy defended his decision to remove starting pitcher Payton Tolle during the fifth inning of their opening playoff matchup against New York after the left-hander approached eighty-three pitches. Seeking a favorable matchup against hitter Ben Rice, Tracy brought in relief pitcher Erik Miller, but Rice promptly launched a home run to center field to double the lead.

Relief arms subsequently surrendered additional runs later in the contest, resulting in a decisive defeat and leaving Boston facing elimination in the next matchup.
