Red Sox finalize AL Wild Card Series roster

Garrett Crochet is officially cleared to participate in the American League Wild Card Series after missing five months of action due to injuries, with the Red Sox placing the left-hander on their active postseason roster. Boston manager Chad Tracy plans to deploy the returning pitcher exclusively out of the bullpen for short relief outings lasting one or two frames because he lacks a fully built pitch count.

The decision follows a lengthy recovery path that included a brief return to activity in late May before a subsequent lat strain sidelined him further. Meanwhile, Triple-A base-stealing threat Braiden Ward was left off the 26-man squad despite considerable external chatter about a potential pinch-running role.
