Red Sox Drop Regular Season Finale To Cubs

Boston wrapped up the regular schedule with a 6-2 defeat against Chicago. Tanner Houck made his initial appearance since May 2025, tossing three innings while allowing three runs, though his velocity and movement fell short of expectations.

Patrick Sandoval followed by covering frames four through eight with a heavy pitch count of 98, effectively ruling him out of Wild Card contention. During the action, Trevor Story secured a fly ball ricocheting off a stadium fixture.

Meanwhile, Willson Contreras and Ceddanne Rafaela were limited to four innings each as they manage existing injuries.
