Rams waive returner Xavier Smith

Los Angeles has decided to part ways with Xavier Smith despite recent statements from the coaching staff indicating stability at the punt returner position. The roster move comes after a costly error during the previous contest against Denver where a poorly judged return inside deep territory proved damaging.

Throughout the opening three weeks of the current campaign, the special teams contributor put up modest averages before the organization opted for a personnel shakeup.

Konata Mumpfield currently holds the backup role on the unofficial depth chart and could step into the vacant assignment during the upcoming matchup against Philadelphia. During the prior season, the departed receiver managed over three hundred receiving yards across multiple catches, though he had not secured a single reception so far this year.
