The Los Angeles Rams have released kicker Harrison Mevis following a costly overtime field-goal miss in Monday night’s 37–34 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Mevis’ 48-yard attempt in extra time—blocked by Bills defensive end Greg Rousseau—sealed the Rams’ defeat after a James Cook fumble handed the Bills the ball.
Despite a strong regular-season start, Mevis struggled with accuracy this year, missing four of nine field-goal attempts and never establishing himself as a long-range threat, with a career-high of just 52 yards on a successful kick. His departure marks the fifth kicker change for the Rams since their 2021 Super Bowl win, as coach Sean McVay criticized the team’s kicking game as “not even close to good enough” after the loss dropped them to 2–3.
To replace Mevis, the Rams have signed veteran Blake Grupe from the Jets’ practice squad, a reliable option with an 81.9% career field-goal conversion rate and experience from 50-plus yards.
