Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders has named Utah transfer Isaac Wilson as the starting quarterback for Saturday’s home showdown against his former team, the Utes, who enter the game ranked No. 11 in the nation.
Wilson, who started seven games as a freshman for Utah before transferring, will look to bounce back from a 29-7 loss to Texas Tech last week, where he threw three interceptions in the second half. Sanders acknowledged Wilson’s struggles but offered a lighthearted reminder: to focus on passing to his own teammates rather than forcing plays.
The Buffaloes, however, face significant offensive challenges, ranking near the bottom of major college football in scoring offense (122nd), red-zone efficiency (133rd), and third- and fourth-down conversions. This season, Colorado has lost three straight games and has already used four different quarterbacks since Shedeur Sanders last played in 2024, with current offensive coordinator Brennan Marion still finding his footing after just five games on the job.
Sanders has shown no signs of changing play-callers, despite the team’s struggles, including a 2-12 record against Power Five opponents since Shedeur’s departure. Meanwhile, freshman Kaneal Sweetwyne, a dual-threat quarterback from Utah, could soon enter the rotation, as indicated by a teammate’s jersey number change this week.
