Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase has successfully appealed two fines totaling $29,852 for an on-field celebration during the team’s Week 2 victory over the Houston Texans. The penalties stemmed from a post-touchdown gesture with teammate Tee Higgins, which the league initially deemed an obscene gesture.
Chase argued in his appeal that the celebration—a playful riff on a wrestling maneuver—was not intended to be offensive and that he had received no prior warning about its prohibition. The NFL’s appeals office sided with his interpretation, dismissing both fines without further penalty.
While Higgins also faced multiple fines for the same incident, there is no indication his appeal has been resolved.
