Ramesh Powar set to head BCCI junior selection committee but if Parthiv Patel talks fail, he could replace Ajit Agarkar

Former national spinner Ramesh Powar has emerged as the leading candidate to take charge of the BCCI junior selection panel following the board's recent search to fill five committee spots. Powar, who represented India in two Tests and 31 ODIs between 2004 and 2007, previously guided the national women's squad across two separate tenures, worked as a spin instructor at the National Cricket Academy under VVS Laxman, and led Gujarat during the previous domestic season.

The designated junior selectors will oversee age-group rosters up to the Under-22 level, select coaching personnel, organize developmental tours, and maintain integrity standards.

Powar may also factor into plans for the senior panel should contractual negotiations between cricket administrators and Parthiv Patel fall through. Current chief selector Ajit Agarkar intends to conclude his administration early next month, opening up a West Zone vacancy on the senior committee.
