Rain arrives with Middlesex needing one Glos wicket

Inclement weather thwarted Middlesex's push for a County Championship Division Two triumph at the Seat Unique Stadium, leaving Gloucestershire saved by the rain with only a single wicket intact. Seeking an improbable 362 for victory, the hosts collapsed to 145 for nine against a fierce attack led by Toby Roland-Jones (4-30) and Ryan Higgins (3-35), who earlier knocked over Ollie Price, Joe Phillips, and pair-collecting Miles Hammond during an initial slide to 18-3.

Following James Bracey's boundary that secured his 1,000th first-class run this year, Tommy Boorman was also dismissed by Higgins. Gloucestershire's tenth defeat in 13 red-ball fixtures seemed assured until Matt Taylor (16 not out) and JT Langridge repelled the bowling for seven consecutive overs, after which umpires Hassan Adnan and Ben Pevarall suspended play at 16:10 BST with 41 overs unbowled, sealing a draw that yielded 13 points for the visitors and 12 for the hosts.

Middlesex had earlier started the final morning positioned at 298 for six before extending their total to 361. Harry Duke spearheaded the late assault by scoring 94 off 116 balls, clearing the ropes off both Langridge and Taylor before falling just shy of a consecutive century when attempting another maximum off Langridge.

Taylor had previously dismissed Sebastian Morgan, while Langridge claimed Zafar Gohar caught behind and cleaned up Roland-Jones, eventually taking 5-87 to mark his second five-wicket performance in three appearances for Gloucestershire prior to Middlesex turning their focus to the impending One-Day Cup final against Leicestershire at Trent Bridge.
