Jon Rahm has agreed to forfeit a reported £75 million owed to him by LIV Golf as part of a settlement that allows him to exit the struggling league. The decision comes after LIV filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the U.S.
last September, following the withdrawal of Saudi Arabia’s multibillion-dollar financial backing. Rahm, the league’s top unsecured creditor, was owed around $100 million (£75 million) in unpaid earnings outside his $300 million (£222 million) contract signed in late 2023 when he left the PGA Tour for LIV.
Despite securing a potential $300 million financing deal from BC Partners Credit for a revamped 'LIV 2.0,' Rahm rejected the proposed terms, opting instead for a full financial exit while retaining the rights to 'Legion XIII,' the name of his LIV team. His departure follows a pattern of high-profile players, including Brooks Koepka, returning to the PGA Tour after its rule changes allowed their comeback under sanctions.
Meanwhile, Rahm has secured DP World Tour membership, ensuring his eligibility for next year’s Ryder Cup, while his recent victory at the LIV Championship marked his third consecutive season title with the league.
