Promotion-chasing Northants trail against Derbyshire
Derbyshire established a 62-run first-innings advantage after bowling Northamptonshire out for 310 on day two at Wantage Road. The home side initially seemed well placed at 97-0 and 187-2 thanks to half-centuries from Ricardo Vasconcelos (58) and milestone skipper Luke Procter (54), followed by a lively 46 from Saif Zaib.
However, the innings unraveled when concussion/injury replacement Nick Potts claimed consecutive scalps to remove Gus Miller and Zaib before the interval, before Brett Randell ripped through the lower order with the second new ball on his way to figures of 3-48.
Luis Reece also took two wickets to celebrate reaching 200 first-class victims for the visitors, plunging the hosts into trouble at 243-8. Lewis McManus mounted a resilient counter-attack, contributing 53 to cross the 4,000 first-class career runs threshold and pairing with Ben Sanderson (27) to secure two batting bonus points before Randell sealed the innings.
