Slovenian cycling legend Primož Roglič left his future wide open ahead of this weekend’s Il Lombardia, suggesting the race could mark the end of his storied career. The five-time Grand Tour champion, who turns 37 later this month, hinted that retirement might be on the horizon, though he expressed a preference for continuing into 2027 if the right opportunity arises.
Speaking at the race’s team presentation in Bergamo, Roglič acknowledged the emotional weight of uncertainty, noting that his decision hinges on both personal motivation and unresolved team negotiations. Despite a challenging stretch—including a late-season resurgence that saw him finish runner-up at the Vuelta a España, claim the European time trial title, and place 10th at the European road race—he remains undecided about his next move, with no team confirmed for next season despite speculation linking him to Tudor Pro Cycling, Lotto-Intermarché, and Pinarello-Q36.5.
Roglič also revealed that a fifth Vuelta victory would have likely prompted his retirement, framing his continued pursuit of success as a desire to ‘finish on a high.’
