India’s fast-bowling contingent is undergoing critical fitness evaluations ahead of their New Zealand tour, with Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana set to participate in match simulations. Krishna, named in the Test squad and first three ODIs, will undergo assessments on October 22 and 24 at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) after recovering from a left hamstring strain suffered during the second ODI against the West Indies in late September.
His selection hinges on passing these tests, as he has not yet been cleared for travel. Meanwhile, Rana—who has not been picked for the ODI squad—will take part in simulations on October 26 and 28, marking his first involvement in team preparations since July, when he last played for India in a T20I against England.
The tour begins with a five-match T20I series, followed by five ODIs and a two-match Test series, with the latter carrying weight in the World Test Championship final standings. Separately, Jasprit Bumrah has been selected solely for the Test squad, with his workload currently limited to 24 overs per week to prepare for the red-ball series.
His exclusion from the white-ball squads allows him to focus on rebuilding his bowling volume ahead of the Test matches.
