Prime Minister Narendra Modi honored India’s young sporting stars at a ceremony in New Delhi, spotlighting the achievements of athletes aged 15 to 17 who delivered standout performances at the Asian Games. Among those recognized was 17-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, a key member of India’s men’s cricket team that secured gold in Tokyo.
Modi praised the team’s success while emphasizing the government’s push to identify and develop talent early, particularly for children aged 5 to 15 through initiatives like Khelo India. He also highlighted India’s women athletes, who accounted for 38 of the country’s 85 medals, including 11 golds, calling their accomplishments a reflection of a ‘new India.’
