Pens Points: Capital Crushed

The Pittsburgh Penguins suffered a 5-3 defeat against the Washington Capitals after failing to overcome an early four-goal deficit. Bryan Rust returned from injury to score in his season debut, while Nick Robertson and Tommy Novak also contributed goals.

In roster news, the Penguins acquired defenseman Spencer Stastney from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Filip Hallander. Additionally, Andrei Kuzmenko remains on non-roster status while mourning a family loss, with a potential return to the lineup scheduled no earlier than Saturday.

Elsewhere, Matt Dumba has retired following a 13-year career, and defenseman Declan Carlile has secured a spot on the Penguins top defensive pairing. Meanwhile, Alexander Ovechkin is preparing for his final NHL season, and Islanders defenseman Alexander Romanov faces another year of recovery following surgery for a torn ACL.
