Calgary Flames forward Connor Zary, the 24th overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, has reflected on the emotional toll of being placed on waivers just two games into the season. After clearing waivers and joining the AHL’s Calgary Wranglers, Zary admitted the experience was unexpectedly difficult, describing the 24-hour wait as an isolating and stressful period.
Despite the setback, he emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and professionalism, noting the support from teammates and fans helped him push forward. Zary, who has struggled to regain his pre-injury form following multiple knee issues, now aims to contribute effectively with his new linemates, Dryden Hunt and William Stromgren, while keeping his sights on the present rather than speculating about a potential return to the NHL roster.
His immediate priority remains performing at a high level in the AHL, where he previously spent parts of three seasons.
