Penguins/Avalanche Recap: Pittsburgh’s quick start no match for MacKinnon, Pens lose 5-2

Arturs Silovs started in goal for Pittsburgh as the Penguins opened the game with a quick two‑goal burst, Evgeni Malkin scoring the first and Sidney Crosby feeding Bryan Rust for the second within the first minute. Colorado answered back when Nathan MacKinnon threaded a cross‑ice pass to Arturri Lehkonen, who tied it, and later equalized again after a MacKinnon slap shot rebounded off Silovs and was collected by Lehkonen for his second goal.

In the second period MacKinnon earned a penalty shot, which Silovs stopped, keeping the game level. The Avalanche surged in the later stages, with MacKinnon adding another tally as Colorado pulled away to a 5‑2 victory over the Penguins.
