MacKinnon has 2 goals and a rare fight in the Avs’ 8-4 victory over the Kings in opener

Nathan MacKinnon led the Colorado Avalanche to an 8-4 opening night win over the Los Angeles Kings by scoring twice during a four-period surge and participating in a rare fight late in the game. Prior to the puck drop, head coach Jared Bednar secured a four-year contract extension, solidifying his position following the previous postseason run.

Additional offensive production for Colorado came from Artturi Lehkonen, Brock Nelson, Gabriel Landeskog, and Mackenzie Blackwood in goal, while Los Angeles received goals from Trevor Moore, Joel Armia, Brian Dumoulin, and Artemi Panarin.
