Patrick Mahomes ready to play in opener

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been cleared to take the field for the team's season debut versus the Denver Broncos on Monday night. The two-time MVP is set to return merely nine months following a December 2025 incident in which he tore both the ACL and LCL in his left knee.

Head coach Andy Reid indicated that his star passer will almost certainly be under center, assuming he encounters no sudden setbacks.

Mahomes, who has spent the offseason rehabilitating and adapting to wearing a knee brace, made clear that he does not intend to restrict his style of play upon returning. While aiming to evade unnecessary collisions, he emphasized that he will approach the matchup without self-imposed limits, declaring that this level of competition is what he signed up for.
