Before acquiring Devon Levi to revamp their goaltending corps this offseason, the Edmonton Oilers evaluated acquiring Clay Stevenson. General manager Stan Bowman ultimately passed on Stevenson, who subsequently joined the Winnipeg Jets via waivers from the Washington Capitals.
Edmonton completely overhauled their netminding group by moving on from Connor Ingram, retaining only Tristan Jarry, trading for Levi, and signing Frederik Andersen in free agency. Meanwhile, Winnipeg's addition of Stevenson could potentially impact the ongoing stalemate regarding Connor Hellebuyck, whose absence from training camp continues.
Elliotte Friedman noted that Stevenson might convince the Jets to alter their trade priorities in net. Prior to these developments, Winnipeg had targeted Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen during trade discussions with the Buffalo Sabres.
