Ohio State football legend Urban Meyer delivered a blunt assessment of Michigan’s current struggles, calling the Wolverines a 'train wreck' during a recent appearance on *The Triple Option*. Meyer, who watched Michigan’s Week 5 loss to Minnesota from the sidelines, criticized the team’s lack of energy, passion, and leadership, particularly on defense.
'I didn’t see the grown men,' he remarked, highlighting what he saw as a deficiency in effort and accountability during critical moments. The Wolverines, now 3-2 under first-year head coach Kyle Whittingham, have shown inconsistency, including a controversial Week 1 win over Western Michigan and back-to-back home losses to Iowa and Minnesota—a first since 1977.
Their offense ranks last in the Big Ten in passing yards (180.8 per game) and struggles to generate points (23.0 per game), while quarterback Bryce Underwood has thrown five touchdowns, four interceptions, and completed just 59.3% of his passes. Despite the offensive woes, Michigan’s defense remains elite, ranking second in the conference in limiting opponent yards (241.4 per game) and passing yards (146.8 per game).
With four ranked opponents remaining—including No. 7 Indiana and No.
5 Ohio State—the Wolverines face a daunting schedule after a Week 6 bye, next hosting Penn State on October 17.
