New Zealand head coach Rob Walter announced plans to deploy hard-hitting batsman Finn Allen in a surprising middle-order role during the upcoming limited-overs series against India. The tactical shift aims to leverage Allen's aggressive style to accelerate the run rate against spinners through the middle stanzas of the innings.
In addition, the coaching staff confirmed that BJ Watling has joined the setup as the new batting coach.
Squad management remains a priority for the touring side as fast bowlers Will O'Rourke and Ben Sears continue their respective recoveries from back and ankle ailments. Meanwhile, veteran quick Lockie Ferguson has been slated to participate solely in the final two ODI fixtures.
The tour will encompass five T20 matches and five one-day internationals, culminating in a two-match red-ball series.
