Veteran long-distance legend Eliud Kipchoge secured his 17th career victory by triumphing at the Melbourne Marathon in a new course record of two hours nine minutes 10 seconds. The 41-year-old expressed pride in competing alongside younger competitors after crossing the finish line at the historic cricket stadium following a route that partially traversed an Australian motorsport venue.
Local runner Thomas do Canto finished second, while Reece Edwards secured the third podium position in the men's event. In the women's competition, Camille French representing New Zealand claimed victory ahead of Australian runner Sinead Diver and Irish competitor Nichola Sheridan.
This competition formed the third segment of Kipchoge's global tour aimed at completing marathons across all seven continents to support his charitable foundation.
