The NFL has decided to keep the Philadelphia Eagles' Week 8 matchup against the Washington Commanders on NBC's Sunday Night Football. Despite considering a shift to the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers (both 4-2), the league opted to maintain the current schedule, leaving the Browns-Steelers game in its 1 p.m.
ET slot on CBS. This decision comes after a period of uncertainty where the Eagles, under Nick Sirianni, were below .500 for the first time in his tenure and had lost three games in a row.
Depending on this week's results, both the Eagles and the 1-4-1 Commanders could be fighting for the NFC East lead. The league's scheduling rules, which guarantee CBS and Fox each a divisional rivalry game, limited other options, such as the Rams-Chargers game.
Philadelphia's heavy primetime presence this year, including a Thanksgiving game against Dallas and a Christmas Eve game against Houston, includes four primetime slots. They will play these games without Jalen Hurts, who is out for the season due to blood clots in his lungs.
This medical situation has led to a NFLPA demand for an investigation, NFL Chief Medical Officer Allen Sills defended the league's handling of the situation, while Leger Douzable and Jeff Saturday own their criticism of the team's medical reporting.
