Michigan State football will return to Pasadena on October 24 to face No. 9 UCLA, marking the Spartans' first appearance at the Rose Bowl since 2014.
That previous visit occurred under former head coach Mark Dantonio, whose team defeated No. 5 Stanford 24-20 in the 100th edition of the game.
Since Dantonio's departure in 2019, the program has struggled to replicate that level of success, a challenge now facing new head coach Pat Fitzgerald.
Fitzgerald's squad enters the matchup with a 2-4 record and no victories in Big Ten play. After an initial 2-0 start, the Spartans lost to No.
4 Notre Dame and have since dropped five consecutive games, including narrow defeats to Illinois and No. 25 Northwestern where late-game opportunities were squandered.
Despite the rough stretch, Fitzgerald believes the team's lack of recent wins provides significant motivation to upset the highly ranked Bruins, who lead the all-time series against Michigan State and have not lost to the Spartans in 61 years.
