NFC East makes unwanted history as first division ever to go winless in consecutive weeks

October 20, 2026

The NFL’s NFC East has etched its name into the record books as the first division in league history to go winless in back-to-back weeks while having played at least four games. Since Week 5, the division’s four teams have compiled a combined 0-6-2 record, a stretch that includes a pair of losses for the Dallas Cowboys.

The Cowboys fell 24-16 at home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on *Thursday Night Football*, with undrafted rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels making his second career start. Their Week 6 struggles continued with a 23-13 road defeat to the Green Bay Packers on *Sunday Night Football*, while their defense ranks last in the league in total yards allowed (382.5 per game), run defense (149.8 per game), and third-down conversion rate allowed (54.7%).

Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles—last year’s two-time defending division champions—suffered narrow losses to the AFC South-leading Jacksonville Jaguars and NFC South-leading Carolina Panthers. Their Week 5 defeat came down to a controversial kickoff return by Jacksonville, which set up a game-winning field goal, while their Week 6 loss saw rookie quarterback Tanner McKee and a Barkley-less offense fall short against Carolina.

The New York Giants, currently leading the division at 3-2-1, managed only a 27-27 tie against the Washington Commanders in overtime, despite both teams reaching field-goal range in the final minutes.
