Fehi Fineanganofo has worked out an arrangement with Newcastle Red Bulls to postpone his switch to England by a full year so he can pursue a spot on the New Zealand roster for the upcoming Rugby World Cup. Originally set to join the squad on a two-year contract starting at the opening of the current term, the record-breaking Super Rugby try-scorer will instead remain with the Wellington-based Hurricanes through the 2027 season following his recent international debut against France.
Club sporting general manager Neil McIlroy expressed full backing for the decision, while head coach Dan McFarland had previously anticipated the winger's arrival in November prior to this finalized compromise that adjusts the player's tenure to cover the 2027-28 and 2028-29 campaigns. Meanwhile, the club opened their Prem schedule with a heavy defeat against Northampton and prepared for an upcoming fixture against Leicester, utilizing wing options Werner Kok and Christian Wade in the meantime.
