NC State hiring Philip Rivers would be unconventional, but he might still be the right fit

Following the departure of veteran leader Dave Doeren after his fourteenth campaign, former signal-caller Philip Rivers has emerged as the primary target in the Wolfpack coaching search. Sources indicate that hiring the program legend could spark significant fan enthusiasm and generate much-needed financial backing for the team's name, image, and likeness efforts.

Rivers currently leads the football program at St. Michael Catholic High in Fairhope, Alabama, a position he has held since the 2021 season alongside a brief stint with the Indianapolis Colts near the conclusion of the 2025 campaign.

He also boasts a personal connection to the institution, as his four-star quarterback son Gunner has already committed to join the squad for the upcoming 2027 season.
