Former NBA player Etan Thomas recently deleted a social media post that attempted to use crowd sizes at an Atlanta playoff matchup to downplay the ongoing influence of Caitlin Clark. After sharing footage to argue that overall spectator interest would plummet without the Indiana star, Thomas faced online pushback regarding the actual crowd figure of 9,745 inside the venue, which features a basketball capacity of roughly 17,000.
While critics initially pointed to the visible upper bowl as evidence of lagging demand, a franchise representative clarified that organizers intentionally restricted ticket availability to the lower tier due to the compressed scheduling of the postseason. Officials ultimately opened a portion of the upper level after selling out the initial allocation, though the online controversy still prompted the former athlete to remove his commentary from the platform entirely.
