India bowling coach Morne Morkel has identified Arshdeep Singh as a potential candidate for the Test squad during the upcoming tour of New Zealand. While the 25-year-old has primarily excelled in limited-overs formats, including reaching 100 T20I appearances and 30 ODI wickets, his domestic red-ball record of 73 wickets across 24 matches has kept him in the selection conversation.
Morkel noted that the team is currently organizing a group of backup bowlers to manage workload and adapt to local conditions for the two-match Test series. Arshdeep, who is also nearing a milestone of 150 T20I wickets, is being evaluated for his ability to transition his work ethic and domestic performance into the longer format if required.
