The White Sox and Tampa Bay Rays each moved one win away from the ALCS after dominating their respective Division Series matchups on Monday. Chicago secured its fourth straight postseason victory with a dramatic 4-3 comeback in the ninth inning, snapping a 24-inning postseason streak where they had led every frame until Cleveland’s early rally.
Rookie outfielder Braden Montgomery and Chase Meidroth delivered clutch hits in the same inning to flip the game, with Montgomery’s opposite-field double and Meidroth’s RBI single sealing the win. The White Sox now hold a commanding 2-0 series lead and need just one more victory to reach the ALCS for the first time since their 2005 World Series championship run.
Meanwhile, the Rays extended their series lead over the Yankees with a 2-0 advantage, as Tampa Bay’s pitching and offense continued to stifle New York’s offense. Freddy Peralta, acquired from the Mets at the trade deadline, dominated with 4⅔ innings of one-run ball, striking out three and allowing just three hits.
The Yankees, who had scored 18 runs in their Wild Card sweep of the Red Sox, managed only two runs in two games against the Rays, both solo homers by Ben Rice. Junior Caminero, Tampa Bay’s MVP-caliber third baseman, provided key offense with a double and an RBI, while the Yankees’ five errors—including three in the first inning—further exposed their defensive struggles.
