The University of Missouri men’s golf team will close out its fall season at the newly opened Halbert National Golf Club in Granbury, Texas, for the inaugural Abilene Christian Intercollegiate. The ultra-exclusive course, designed by Tom Fazio and built on 185 acres of former farmland, hosted its first tournament this week, offering a high-profile stage for Division I competition.
Mizzou, led by seniors Veikka Viskari and Brock Snyder, arrives after strong individual performances at the Bryson Invitational, where Viskari and junior Trent Mierl finished in the top five. The Tigers, ranked 56th nationally, will face stiff competition from teams like Texas A&M (28th) and Michigan (54th), with all three rounds streamed live on the Golf Channel from October 19–21.
Head coach Glen Millican called the event one of the best experiences of the year for college golf, highlighting the tournament’s prestige and the caliber of the field.
The private, 7,542-yard par-72 layout—funded by biotech entrepreneur David Halbert—presents an unfamiliar challenge for Mizzou, with Millican admitting the team knows little about its design. Freshman Antoni Hawkins and junior Paxton Maxwell round out the roster, which has thrived this season with Viskari leading the scoring average at 71.08.
The tournament, featuring eight Division I teams, marks a significant moment for Halbert National, which opened its doors just this spring and remains largely shrouded in secrecy due to its secluded nature.
