President Donald Trump has announced plans to transform the historic East Potomac Golf Links into an 18-hole course designed to host major tournaments like the US Open and PGA Championship, despite ongoing legal challenges. Construction is scheduled to begin on November 15 and will take 15 months, though the project has already faced criticism, including a federal judge’s ruling against the administration for cutting down trees without proper notice.
Judge Ana Reyes has ordered senior Interior Department officials to testify at a follow-up hearing on Monday, while the Trump administration has requested her recusal, alleging bias. The redesign, which Trump claims is necessary due to the course’s deteriorating condition, would eliminate public access areas currently used for biking, picnicking, and fishing.
This latest initiative follows other controversial projects in Washington, including the demolition of the White House’s historic East Wing and plans for a massive triumphal arch, all of which have sparked legal disputes over congressional approval and public access.
