Maryland announced the dismissal of head coach Mike Locksley after the Terrapins slipped to a 2-5 record, a stretch that includes a last‑second home loss to Rutgers that extended their losing streak to five games. The decision was communicated to the team on Wednesday morning, and Bazaar Abdul‑Rahim, a former Maryland assistant with local ties, was named interim head coach.
Locksley, hired in December 2018, finished his tenure with a 39‑54 overall record, including a 4‑8 finish in each of his last two seasons and a 2‑20 mark in the Big Ten since 2024. He will receive a buyout exceeding $9 million despite his $6.4 million salary this year.
Maryland will be on a bye week before Abdul‑Rahim’s first game in charge against Illinois on Oct. 31.
