Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham addressed his team's rushing woes following a six-point overtime defeat against Indiana on October 24. The Wolverines managed just 57 yards on 42 carries during the contest, dropping their season average to 134.7 yards per contest and placing them 101st nationally among FBS programs.
Whittingham noted that the ground attack has relied on a committee approach because no individual running back has emerged to claim the primary role. Jordan Marshall and Savion Hiter have both struggled to break long runs or accumulate significant totals, while third-stringer Bryson Kuzdzal remains the only player averaging at least four yards per carry.
In addition to the lack of production from the backfield, Whittingham pointed to blocking struggles along the line of scrimmage and a general absence of physical consistency up front as the team prepares for the final stretch of the season.
