COLLEGE GAMEDAY SHOULD HAVE GONE FCS OR GROUP OF FIVE — INDIANA-MINNESOTA WAS A MISSED OPPORTUNITY

ESPN opted to direct its traveling pregame program to Bloomington for a matchup between the Hoosiers and Minnesota, passing up an alternative opportunity to spotlight smaller collegiate divisions. Commentary surrounding the weekend slate noted that alternative destinations, such as an FCS showdown between South Dakota State and South Dakota in Brookings, would have offered a unique showcase for programs outside the major conferences.

Meanwhile, the network also bypassed a neutral-site rivalry clash between the Georgia Bulldogs and Florida Gators at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Critics argued that despite the high-profile SEC implications and massive fan bases involved, the neutral setting lacked the traditional campus atmosphere typical of the weekly broadcast.
