Michael Block’s path to PGA Tour Champions stardom has been anything but straightforward. After years of anticipation, the 50-year-old club professional from Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo, California, faced a major setback when the Champions Tour Q-School was eliminated just as he turned eligible.
Undeterred, Block leveraged his viral moment from the 2023 PGA Championship—a hole-in-one in the final round alongside Rory McIlroy—that catapulted him into the spotlight. That breakthrough secured sponsor exemptions, granting him entry into the tour, where he quickly proved his worth with multiple top-10 finishes, including a T-3 at the Dicks Open in Endicott, New York, his first event after turning 50.
Now, Block sits 39th in the Charles Schwab Cup standings, with a realistic shot at locking in 2027 exemption by finishing inside the top 36 this season. His recent form, highlighted by a second-round 63 at the Furyk & Friends tournament, underscores his resilience, even as he balances his professional golf career with running Arroyo Trabuco, handling club duties remotely from tournaments.
Despite his demanding schedule, Block has not taught lessons since 2023, prioritizing his golf ambitions while maintaining his club responsibilities.
