The New York Mets are exploring potential additions to their hitting staff following the recent dismissal of Jeff Albert. John Mallee, who most recently served as an assistant hitting coach for the Chicago Cubs, has emerged as a candidate due to his previous professional history with David Stearns during their shared tenure in the Houston Astros organization.
Mallee brings extensive experience to the table, including a World Series championship with Chicago in 2016, along with past roles with the Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Angels.
In addition to Mallee, the organization is considering other options to fill the vacancy. Kevin Long, who was recently let go by the Phillies, is also in the mix and has been scheduled for an interview.
Long previously held a hitting coach position with the Mets and maintains a professional connection with Juan Soto dating back to their time together with the Washington Nationals.
