A 17-year-old wicketkeeper-batter from Karachi has made waves in Pakistan’s school cricket scene with a match-winning century in the PCB Talent Hunt Under-17 tournament. Playing for Kamran Public School, the left-handed batsman—who shares his name with the Australian legend Adam Gilchrist—scored 117 off 108 balls against Happy Palace Grammar School at Jinnah College, anchoring his team’s 297-run total and securing a 172-run victory.
His innings included 11 boundaries and lasted nearly two and a quarter hours, contributing nearly 40% of his side’s score in the 40-over match. Though named after the fiery Australian, the teenager cites Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara as his primary inspiration, praising the former captain’s technique and longevity.
The tournament, now in its second iteration, has drawn over 3,300 schools nationwide, with 1,200 advancing past initial rounds. The initiative aims to nurture young talent, offering participants a platform to compete at district and provincial levels before the national finals in December.
