Maryland football falls to Illinois, 20-17, on last-second FG in coach debut

Maryland's coaching transition under Aazaar Abdul-Rahim failed to spark a turnaround, as the Terrapins suffered their sixth consecutive loss in a 20-17 defeat against Illinois. The game concluded on a 26-yard field goal by Ethan Moczulski as time expired, marking Maryland's 13th straight loss against Big Ten opponents.

Illinois quarterback Katin Houser returned to the starting lineup, overcoming an early interception by Messiah Delhomme to lead the game-winning drive. Despite a rushing touchdown from Malik Washington and a score from DeJuan Williams, Maryland's offense struggled with turnovers, including a fumble by Williams and an interception thrown by Washington to Tanner Heckel.

Illinois secured the win following a late first-half touchdown pass from Houser to Brayden Trimble.
